When I think of Valentine's Day, of course I think of my loving partner, and the flashy cards and flowers that symbolize this day of romance.
But below the surface of the present moment, when I think of Valentine's Day, what emerges is a remembrance of the childhood magic of this day.
I remember as a young boy, the joy created as everyone exchanged Valentine's greetings with each other. Kids watched with joy as other children read their messages, and counted with pride and glee the number of Valentine's they received - a testament of their lovability!
Everyone seemed worthy of this special greeting - no matter how mean or meaningless they might have been in days gone by - all was forgotten. In the spirit of abandon it was a playful open hearted embrace.
